The IACFS offers a unique combination of skills having the ability to investigate crime trends, carry out chemical analysis and examine surface profiles.  For example there are a number of joint studies presently underway which are examining the effect of speed and efficiency of evidence collection and interpretation on the incidence of crime in specific areas.

The Institute has at its core a number of experts with world class reputations in their chosen fields who can deliver innovative solutions to problems in analysis of forensic evidence.  For example one area of work involves the collection of DNA from guns whilst another area of research has resulted in a novel, accurate method of gathering, interpreting and comparing information from bullets, cartridges and guns.
