Appointment of IACFS Research Fellow |
|
Dr. Piotr Juszczak was appointed as a Research Fellow in IACFS in December 2009. Piotr studied Physics at Wroclaw University of Technology in Poland and Computer Science at the National University of Ireland in Galway. He obtained his Ph.D. from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands and has worked as a researcher at both Imperial College London (Institute of Mathematical Science) and UCL. His area of expertise is in automatic pattern recognition, machine learning and statistics which he has applied to the detection of credit card fraud. Piotr is working on developing the Huddersfield interactive Behavioural offence Patterning system (HiBoPs) which will combine data on offenders’ spatial behaviour with data on ‘social’ facilitators and barriers to mobility used widely in Environmental Criminology. It is anticipated that the system will strengthen investigators’ ability to detect the likely residential locations of offenders based on where they commit their crimes. It will build a robust framework for collaborative bids by the Institute to both EPSRC and ESRC.
